Posted under Editorials on Wednesday, 30 September 2009 by admin

Dropbox , the easy to use file access manager which syncs your files across all your computers and the web, has introduced an iPhone application to make it even easier to access your files anywhere in the world. After almost 7 weeks of waiting, Apple has finally approved the application.

Cyanogen will continue, albeit slightly handicapped by Google

Posted under Editorials on Tuesday, 29 September 2009 by admin

After Google dropped the L-bomb on Cyanogen, he reportedly opened up talks with the boys in Goo. It sounds like they may have finally reached a compromise in their little disagreement. So the Cyanogen mod is back

iPhone no longer exclusive to O2 in the UK, heads to Orange ‘later this year’

Some pretty big iPhone news to share with y’all this morning: the iPhone will no longer be exclusive to O2 over in the UK, becoming available on Orange “later this year.” So for all of you in the U.S. who one day hope to see the iPhone on a different wireless provider (like, say, Verizon Wireless, differences between CDMA and GSM notwithstanding), well, you now have a precedent

Chinese iPhone pricing revealed: it’s the exact opposite of ours

Posted under Editorials on Sunday, 27 September 2009 by john

China Unicom, the country’s second-largest carrier, will offer the iPhone starting in mid-October. And in pricing that is rather the opposite of the low upfront cost and high monthly pricing at AT&T, they’ll be selling the device almost at cost and pairing it with plans that make ours look positively extortionate.

That’s a sexy fake Hero you’ve got there, China

Knockoffs are nothing new, but usually they run some weirdo OS that’s skinned to look like the original, as with the HiPhone . Not so in this case: since Android is freely available to install on any hardware whatever, the primary difference will be the hardware, which doesn’t look that bad.

I’m sure the K700 is really nice. And if it were ever going to come out in the USA, I’d love to take it out some time just to talk, maybe grab some gelato, or whatever. But I’m just not feeling that connection… oh, all right, if you must know, it’s the chin

How should Net Neutrality affect the mobile Internet?

Posted under Editorials on Wednesday, 23 September 2009 by admin

The Big Deal yesterday was the FCC’s announcement of two additional proposals to its enforcement of Net Neutrality: non-discrimination (ISPs can’t play favorites when it comes to network traffic), and transparent management (ISPs should be upfront with their network management practices, like blocking BitTorrent during peak hours). That’s all well and good—I don’t think you’ll find anyone across the Crunch Network who doesn’t support Net Neutrality—but this is thought to apply to “traditional” ISPs: Comcast, Time Warner, etc. The question becomes, then, how should Net Neutrality affect the wireless Internet

Man sends 662,000 txts in 30 days

Posted under Editorials on Tuesday, 22 September 2009 by john

Some anonymous AT&T user managed to send 662,258 txt messages in a 30 day period using his iPhone. To me, the crazy part is not that the guy sent then many messages, but that he still receives his bill on hard copy. 12,000 pages of hard copy
