Review: T-Mobile Dash 3G

Posted under Editorials on Tuesday, 21 July 2009 by admin

The short version : A solid, compact WinMo smartphone that’s capable of a lot, but can’t really compete with the others on the market. The Dash 3g is the successor to the Dash (obviously), which was a good phone back in the day, though limited by Windows Mobile as many phones are.

LG Rumor 2 headed for Virgin Mobile?

Good news, pre-paid fans! You’ve got a new handset coming to your corner of the market. We can’t promise anything for sure, but we’ve got good reason to believe that Virgin Mobile will be getting the LG Rumor 2 sometime in the coming weeks. Our source didn’t reveal whether the Rumor 2 would be on the pre-paid or post-paid (Helio) side of Virgin Mobile’s offerings - but as all of the current contracted options sport 3G capabilities and the Rumor 2 doesnt, we’re inclined to think it’ll be a pre-paid deal.

Hands-on: Samsung Highlight for T-Mobile

Posted under Editorials on Tuesday, 14 July 2009 by john

Perhaps it’s the die-hard QWERTY keyboard purist in me, but I don’t see how these tiny touchscreen phones are viable options these days. Look at the size of the screen on the Samsung Highlight compared to that of the iPhone and G1. (I am not comparing this device to the iPhone or G1 in any way, shape or form other than the size of the screen.) It’s so freaking tiny.

Verizon’s own app store to launch too late and for no good reason

Posted under Editorials on Tuesday, 14 July 2009 by admin

So Verizon is putting out a call to developers to get excited about the upcoming Verizon application store. A little late, guys! You expect developers to turn around and say “sure buddy!” while they’re busy scrambling to get their apps working on platforms that aren’t built from the ground up to screw them over

BlackBerry Tours, come and get ‘em on Sprint and Verizon

Both carriers are now offering RIM’s latest and greatest CDMA BlackBerry for $199.99 on contract, so you’re probably not going to see a lot of defections between carriers this time around. Pardon us if we don’t shed a tear for the lack of exclusivity on this one.

Nokia 7020 garners FCC approval

Filed under: Handsets, Nokia, GSM, EDGE Here’s one we know you’ve been waiting for with bated breath: the lowly Nokia 7020 clamshell has earned its FCC wings on its way to a Q4 release. The phone was always designed as a quadband EDGE device, so it’s not clear whether the FCC filing is indicative of an intention on Nokia’s part to actually offer the phone in the States — there isn’t any carrier branding and there aren’t any carrier-customized buttons on the keypad, so this might just be a formality. Then again, it could make a respectable backup phone or a cheapo to take overseas if they do decide to offer it direct or through the flagship stores — who doesn’t like concealed displays and 2 megapixel cameras, after all
