Posted under Editorials on Friday, 1 May 2009 by john

Filed under: T-Mobile, Misc There’s not exactly a ton of details on this one, but it looks like Deutsche Telekom CFO Timotheus Hoettges caused a bit of a stir at the company’s recently shareholder meeting, where he reportedly suggested that T-Mobile UK would likely have to merge with another carrier or face the possibility of going bust.

Texting goes to hell in a handbasket on Boost; Seidenberg vindicated?

Posted under Editorials on Friday, 1 May 2009 by john

Filed under: Messaging, Boost Mobile, iDEN The knee-jerk reaction to Verizon chief Ivan Seidenberg’s recent inflammatory interview — saying he doesn’t know “what Sprint thinks it is” in response to Boost’s blowout $50 all-you-can-eat calling and texting plan — was to call him out for slamming competition (because, let’s be real, no one likes executives hating on affordable stuff).

"Surprises" in store for Android at Google I/O?

Filed under: Software, Android Android 1.5’s already been detailed and its accompanying SDK fully released, but does Google still have a few aces up its sleeves for this release? As you might recall, Google’s I/O conference last year was an unexpectedly blockbuster event where a mostly-finished Android 1.0 got detailed in depth for the first time, and a new blog post on the official Android Developers Blog alludes to “a few surprises we’ve lined up” that we’re hoping will make the event worthwhile for non-dev types — people just looking to see the platform advance

Rumor: Samsung Alias 2 and its whacky classroom theme launching on May 11th?

Posted under Editorials on Friday, 1 May 2009 by john

Good news and bad news, folks. Good news: If you’re anxiously awaiting the debut of the Samsung Alias 2, you may only have another couple of weeks to wait. Bad news: As far as anyone can tell, it’s still sporting that absolutely horrid elementary schoolroom theme.

Palm Eos might be heading for Sprint as well

Posted under Editorials on Friday, 1 May 2009 by admin

If you’re taking the original Palm Eos story with a grain of salt, you’re going to want to find another, slightly smaller grain for this one. Now, we’d previously heard that the Eos was going to AT&T - and with the Pre being exclusive to Sprint and AT&T’s new-found love for exclusivity, most of us just assumed AT&T had this one locked down. Following the barrage of Eos details that hit the Internet yesterday, Phonenews poked around with their sources at Sprint and, sure enough, they found at least one person claiming a CDMA version of the Eos was Sprint-bound.

We just got the rugged, military spec Samsung SGH-A657 - what should we do to it?

Posted under Editorials on Friday, 1 May 2009 by admin

Built to meet military specifications for dust, shock, vibration, and extreme temperatures, the Samsung SGH-A657 is one beast of a phone. Sure, it’s probably not going to win any beauty contests - but if a gun fight were to break out during the beauty contest, the A657 would probably be the last one standing and win by default. What it lacks in beauty it makes up for in the fact that it could probably beat you up.
